Swim Lessons and Swim Team
Lexington Parks Department offers all-ages swim lessons and child swim teams. The goal of the programs is to teach water safety skills and provide fun exercise opportunities.
Online Registration
Registration for swim lessons and swim team will be offered online from noon on April 28 through May 16.
To register online you will need:
- $25 registration fee for swim lessons
- $35 registration fee for swim team
- For child classes: your child’s verified proof of age in our system (if not previously provided). Find out how to verify your child’s age.
Registering at the Pools
Beginning May 25, registration for swim lessons and swim team is available at the pools during normal operating hours until the day before each session.
Swim Lessons Offered
- Level 1 - Water Exploration – This class is for the new student who is fearful and not adjusted to class or water environment.
- Level 2 - Primary Skills – This class is for the student who is adjusted to water/class, can submerge face, may float/glide and move arms.
- Level 3 - Stroke Readiness – This class is for the student who can float on front or back, roll over, use arms and swim five yards.
- Level 4 - Stroke Development – This class is for the student who can swim elementary backstroke and crawl stroke for 10 yards without stopping.
- Level 5 - Stroke Refinement – This class is for students who can swim at least 10 yards in each of the four basic strokes.
- Parent and Me - This special class is for parents and their little diaper dolphin. This class is a great way for out little ones to explore a liquid playground. The benefits of “baby-friendly”, infant/toddler swimming are unique, uplifting and contribute to the positive development of the whole child. The class will consist of water safety, accident prevention, songs, games and FUN! The cost for a Parent & Me class $25 per child.
- Basic Diving Instruction – Any youth that can pass the Red Cross Level 3 class may participate in the basic diving course. Individuals will be taught basic dives and proper diving techniques. The cost is $25 per diver.
- Adult Swim Lessons – You are never too old to learn to swim or to improve your stroke. Let our experienced instructors help you discover the wonders of water in our adult swim lessons. For your safety, as well as your child’s safety, don’t delay taking swim lessons for another year. In addition to safety, swimming is a great form of exercise. The cost for adult swim lessons is $25 per session.
- Water Aerobics – Move and grove through the water to your favorite tunes! Water aerobics is a total body, non-impact form of exercise that combines movement and music to help you get in shape. Water aerobics helps you shape up and trim down while providing cardiovascular and toning benefits.
Swim Team Details
- Youth Swim Teams – PRACTICE STARTS JUNE 9 Swim teams are designed for youth, ages 5 – 15, who enjoy swimming. Anyone who can pass the Red Cross Level 3 class and meets the age requirement is eligible for this program. Swim teams encourage good sportsmanship and team spirit. Swim team practice begins in June and will conclude with the championship meet in August. Swim meets will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evening, with warm ups at 5:30 pm and the meets beginning at 6 pm. Each swimmer must participate in at least three meets to qualify for the championship meet at the end of the summer. The cost to enroll on a swim team is $35.
